CHAPTER XVI
CITIZENSHIP
Continuation
of citizenship.
236. Any person who, immediately before the appointed day, was a
citizen of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, whether by birth or descent or
registration or otherwise, whether by virtue of the former Constitution or
pursuant to any other law, shall continue to be a citizen under this Constitution.
237. Any person who, immediately before the appointed day, was
entitled to become a citizen of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on
registration or by other acquisition of citizenship shall continue to be entitled
to so become a citizen.
238. (1) Subject to subsection (2) of this section, every person born
in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on or after the appointed day shall
become a citizen at the date of his birth.
(2) A person shall not become a citizen by virtue of subsection
(1) of this section if at the time of his birth
(a) neither of his parents is a citizen of Saint Vincent and
the Grenadines and either of them possesses such
immunity from suit and legal process as is accorded
to an envoy of a foreign sovereign power accredited
to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines; or
(b) either of his parents is an alien from an enemy country
and the birth occurs in a place then under occupation
by that country.
