              (2) A person shall not be qualified to be appointed to hold
or act in an office of Magistrate unless he holds one or other of the specified
qualifications and has held one or other of those qualifications for a total
period of not less than five years.
Jurisdiction.
      250. Magistrates shall have such jurisdiction and powers and shall
exercise such functions and duties as may be prescribed by Parliament.
     251. (1) Magistrates shall be paid such salaries and allowances as
may be prescribed by Parliament.
            (2) Subject to sections 253 to 255 of this Constitution,
Magistrates shall have such terms and condition of office as may be
prescribed by Parliament.
             (3) The salary and allowances (other than allowances which
are not taken into account in the computation of pensions) of a Magistrate
shall not be reduced, and the terms and conditions of office applicable to a
Magistrate upon his appointment shall not be made less favourable to him,
during the currency of that appointment.

       252. A Magistrate shall not enter upon the duties of his office until
he has taken and subscribed the oaths of allegiance and the oath of office
set out in the Second Schedule to this Constitution.
      253. In the exercise of his judicial functions, a Magistrate shall not
be subject to the direction or control of any other person or authority.
      254. (1) Subject to the provisions of section 255 of this
Constitution, a Magistrate shall vacate his office when he attains the
prescribed age.
             (2) The prescribed age for the purposes of subsection (1) of
this section is the age of sixty-six years or such other age as may be
prescribed by Parliament:
